Places we like:sugarloaf

Sugarloaf - Carrabassett Valley, Maine

As the air starts to chill, I just want to highlight a fabulous ski area. Sugarloaf Mountain is a skiers delight. Its single base offers a “ski village” atmosphere with food offerings, a few shops and your typical ski service necessities. It’s vast terrain offers numerous, uncrowded skiing options for all levels of skiers. Trails are wide and runs are long. Top to bottom vertical of 2,820 feet. Additionally, they've recently announce a huge expansion which will include "a 270-acre area that will include tight, eastern tree skiing and wide-open western-style glades" with an additional 385 acres to be developed during Phase II & III.

Despite its removal in 1997, talk of Sugarloaf’s gondola still comes up often. Whether it's while riding the chairlift with someone who has skied when it; or listening to people chat while having an après ski beverage in the Widowmaker Lounge. There are always a rumor or two swirling about the return of a gondola to the mountain. We can always hope.

The affinity for this mountain is displayed proudly as “Sugarloafers” show their year of first meeting, and subsequently, falling in love with the mountain. As well as the highly recognizable blue triangle Sugarloaf logo sticker, which you come across almost anywhere. This mountain has grown over the past 50+ years to a four season resort with a championship golf course and ski lift and zip line rides in the summer. Sugarloaf is definitely a family mountain.
